Bongsam abandons his sick wife Sunim and young son Gwidong for a rich widow named Yeonwol Sunim dies and Gwidong is raised by Yeonwol who severely abuses young Gwidong Sunims soul which cannot leave this world stays to protect her son She asks Yeonwol to be a good mother to Gwidong but Yeonwol takes no heed and her abuse continues Sunim kills Yeonwol and asks a wandering monk to take in her son then leaves for the other world
