'Fresh Off The Boat'
What's it about?: Based on chef Eddie Huang's memoir, the sitcom follows a Taiwanese family as they adjust to a move from DC to Orlando. Watch it because: This is the first Asian-American family sitcom since Margaret Cho's "All-American Girl" back in 1994. Constance Wu and Randall Park do a great job as Eddie's parents. 'Allegiance'
What's it about?: A CIA analyst learns that his family is made up of Russian spies. Watch it because: You're into riveting spy stuff and you're cool with watching it play out on network TV with solid actors like Hope Davis and Scott Cohen. ("Gilmore Girls" fans, Scott Cohen is Max Medina. Do with that info what you will.) When's it air?: Thursday, Feb 5th at 10 PM on NBC.
'Better Call Saul'
What's it about?: This spinoff prequel focuses on Albuquerque criminal lawyer Saul Goodman six years before "Breaking Bad" takes place.Watch it because: You're a "Breaking Bad" fan. Come on. And if you're not, creator Vince Gilligan has cooked up (ya know, like meth?) an interesting origin story for a surprisingly sympathetic character played by Bob Odenkirk. When's it on: Sunday, February 8th at 10 PM on AMC.
'The Slap'
What's it about?: This eight-episode event follows the aftermath of a parent's slapping of another couple's child at a Brooklyn birthday party. Watch it because: You feel like contemplating and perhaps even debating complex issues of human behavior and interpersonal ethics? And/or you like Uma Thurman. When's it on: Thursday, February 12th at 8 PM on NBC.
'The Odd Couple'
What's it about?: A reboot of the '70s series (first a Neil Simon play, then a 1968 movie, and later, a 1982 TV update) about an unlikely pair of roommates. Watch it because: You've got a hankering for that good ol' Matthew Perry charm. You're curious how this installment of the iconic series will work. "Community" people should know alum Yvette Nicole Brown got promoted to series regular. When's it air?: Thursday, February 19th at 8:30 PM on CBS.
'Secrets and Lies'
What's it about?: Based on an Australian series, the 10-episode drama follows the investigation of a family man who finds the body of a young boy and then becomes the suspect in his murder. Things are probably not what they seem...? Watch because: You love secrets. And maybe you love lies, too! There have been a good deal of shows (and one commercial) about dead kids recently, so here's another one to get really into. Ryan Phillippe stars and Juliette Lewis is the detective on his case. When's it air?: Sunday, March 1st at 9 PM on ABC.
'The Last Man on Earth'
What's it about?: In the year 2022, Phil Miller searches for any signs of life after an outbreak wipes out the human race. Watch it because: There really hasn't been anything like this on TV before, and we have faith that Will Forte is capable of carrying a comedic one man show. He won't be alone for long... January Jones, Mary Steenburgen, and more are also attached. When's it air?: Sunday, March 1st at 9 PM on Fox.
'Battle Creek'
What's it about?: Two mismatched detective partners investigate crimes in Battle Creek, Michigan. Watch it because: It boasts a promising cast with stars Josh Duhamel and Dean Winters. The idea of a "gritty crime drama" appeals to you. When's it air?: Sunday, March 1st at 10 PM on CBS.
'CSI: Cyber'
What's it about?: We actually thought this was called "CSI: Cyborg" when we first glanced at the title and got really intrigued, but then realized it's about internet-related crimes. We're guessing you get the whole "CSI" franchise thing by now. This one: more computers, probably. Watch it because: Procedurals are your thing. Patricia Arquette stars, and she may very well be an Oscar winner soon. When's it air?: Wednesday, March 1st at 10 PM on CBS.
'American Crime'
What's it about?: An anthology drama that explores race, class, and gender while following the aftermath and trial of a racially charged murder in Modesto, California. Watch it because: It's created by John Ridley, who wrote "12 Years a Slave." Felicity Huffman, Regina King, and Timothy Hutton are all leads here. It will be interesting to see how it deals with some tough-to-tackle material on network TV. When's it on?: Thursday, March 5th at 10 PM on ABC.
'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt'
What's it about: A young woman is rescued from a doomsday cult and begins a new life on her own in New York City. Watch it because: Ellie Kemper is very funny and seems tailor-made for this role. If you're looking for more comedy cred, know that Tina Fey created the show and Jane Krakowski plays Kimmy's wealthy socialite boss. When's it air?: It starts streaming on Netflix on March 6th.
'One Big Happy'
What's it about?: A type A single lesbian and her best straight male friend decide to have a baby together. She gets pregnant just after he gets married to a zany, fun-loving British lady. Watch it because: You have faith in what Ellen DeGeneres produces. (This.) Elisha Cuthbert of the under-watched "Happy Endings" stars alongside Nick Zano. When's it air?: Tuesday, March 17th at 8:30 PM on NBC.
'Bloodline'
What's it about?: A family of four adult siblings deal with a mysterious tragedy from their past when their black sheep brother returns home. Watch it because: Kyle Chandler, Linda Cardellini, Sam Shepard, and Sissy Spacek are just some of the actors involved. We're trusting Netflix to put them to good use in a dark psychological domestic thriller. When's it air?: Streaming on Netflix starting March 30th.
'Weird Loners'
What's it about?: A group of relationship-phobic pals living in a townhouse in Queens. Watch it because: You're still trying to fill that "Friends" void (Netflix, you guys) and you enjoy watching "quirky," attractive people be perpetually unlucky in love. When's it air?: Tuesday, March 31 on Fox.
'The Whispers'
What's it about?: Children keep getting manipulated by unseen forces. Creepy, riiiight? Watch it because: You wanna find out exactly what those darn whispers are. When's it air?: This Spring on ABC.
