7 Burning Questions We Have After Watching the New 'Rogue One' Trailer
by Jesse Schedeen
The second trailer for this year's epic "Star Wars" prequel has arrived, and once again we can't wait to revisit that galaxy far, far away. After obsessively re-watching the new "Rogue One" trailer, these are the big questions we have about the upcoming spinoff.
Why Is Jyn in Custody?
It's pretty clear from the trailers that Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso runs afoul of the Rebel Alliance before being pressured into joining their fight. What exactly did she do to tick off the rebels, and since when are they the ones placing people under arrest?
What’s the Deal With K-2S0?
This oversized droid (played by Alan Tudyk) apparently has a past every bit as checkered as Jyn's. Why is K-2SO seeking redemption with the Rebel Alliance? And what happens when stops playing nice and starts battling Stormtroopers? Could he be the galaxy's most dangerous droid since General Grievous?
Where Is Galen Erso?
We know that Mads Mikkelsen is playing Jyn's father, Galen Erso, a scientist whose talents are coveted by both the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. What we don't know is why Mikkelsen hasn't appeared in either of the film's trailers. What about this character requires such a top-secret approach?
Who's in the Bacta Tank?
The first teaser trailer included a shot of a mysterious, black-robed figure kneeling in front of a Bacta tank similar to the one that healed Luke in "The Empire Strikes Back." Given that the shot also feature two Royal Guards, we wonder if that's Emperor Palpatine getting a Dark Side spa treatment. As for the black-robed figure, is that Vader, or another of Palpatine's shadowy minions?
Are There Any Other Famous Rebels?
We know that "Rogue One" will include at least a few familiar faces among the rebel Alliance, including Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, and Saw Gerrera (Star Wars: Rebels"?
Are the Death Troopers Worthy of the Name?
"Rogue One" will introduce a new type of Imperial trooper, one that serves as the elite bodyguard force for Director Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn). Given that your average Stromtrooper can barely hit the broad side of a barn, we're hoping for a little more from what is theoretically the best and brightest of Palpatine's intergalactic military force.
How Much Is Darth Vader in the Film?
The new trailer offered a brief (but AWESOME) glimpse of Darth Vader. We want to know just how much the Dark Lord of the Sith will factor into this conflict. It's not every day you see James earl Jones returning to his most iconic role, so hopefully "Rogue One" delivers more Vader than "Revenge of the Sith". And preferably no angsty screaming this time.
