A 2 Live Crew Movie Is Happening With RJ Cyler as Luther Campbell
A movie about '90s rap group 2 Live Crew is in the works, with RJ Cyler of "Power Rangers" being tipped to play lead singer Luther Campbell.
Deadline reports that the movie is based on "The Book of Luke," the memoir about the controversial group whose parody version of the Roy Orbison song "Oh Pretty Women" went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
According to Deadline, the movie will be "Straight Outta Compton" meets "The People Vs. Larry Flynt," with a combo of the Campbell's rise-to-fame story and its landmark court case. The group's other songs include "Me So Horny" and "Banned in the USA," which sampled Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA."
In addition to playing Blue Ranger in this year's "Power Rangers," Cyler has starred in "Me And Earl And The Dying Girl," "War Machine" and is currently filming "White Boy Rick." He currently costars on the Showtime series "I'm Dying Up Here" as Adam, a struggling stand-up comedian.
Word is that Cyler's parents met at a 2 Live Crew concert, which makes this ridiculously perfect casting.
