Amazon 'Near a Deal' to Pick Up 'The Expanse' for Season 4
"The Expanse" may be one of the lucky ones. Season 3 is still airing on Syfy, and when it finishes up next month it may already have a new home in place for Season 4. Emphasis on "may."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon Studios has been in talks to revive "The Expanse" after its recent cancellation, adding that the interested parties are "near a deal to revive the space drama" for Season 4, just 10 days after Syfy axed it.
However, it's not over yet. On Twitter, the show's writers posted (then deleted) this note to fans:
"We're excited, but the deal's not closed...we're not quite through the woods yet. Keep up the fight Expansers & watch this [week's] episode LIVE with us on SyFy. [W]e'll be dancing in the streets right along with you as soon as we get anything official."
Here's some interesting backstory from THR, with a tie to Amazon boss Jeff Bezos:
"Amazon Studios had streaming rights to the first three seasons of the show. Sources say Bezos is a big fan of the book and was livid that the TV series went to NBCUniversal-owned Syfy. The move is said to have ignited Bezos' demand that Amazon Studios brass find the company's version of Game of Thrones."
Isn't that -- Amazon's GoT -- meant to be the upcoming "Lord of the Rings" series?
Anyway, several fans are already watching "The Expanse" through Amazon, so this pickup would suit them perfectly. But we'll see. In the meantime, if you have Syfy, keep watching Season 3 on Wednesdays so they know you are interested.
