AMC Developing Another 'Walking Dead' Spinoff
Even more "The Walking Dead" is coming our way. AMC announced that a second spinoff of its hit zombie drama is in "active development."
"We’re not yet at a stage where we’ll be announcing its plans to premiere," said Ed Carroll, AMC's chief operating officer during an earnings call with investors.
"But we have hired creative people that have pitched story outlines. We feel very good about the development of that series."
Despite falling ratings for the flagship series, AMC is determined to wring as much content out of "The Walking Dead" as possible. They launched the first spinoff, "Fear the Walking Dead," in 2015. The network is also planning three spinoff movies starring Andrew Lincoln, who departed the flagship last season.
Scott Gimple, the Chief Content Officer of "TWD" universe, teased more offshoots last year, saying, "There’s a lot of stuff that’s cooking in the garage right now. We’re working on all sorts of things."
The potential new spinoff could focus on Danai Gurira, who is reportedly exiting after the upcoming Season 10. Fans have also speculated another spinoff could explore the zombie apocalypse in another location, like Tokyo or London.
"The Walking Dead" is currently airing its ninth season.
