Angela Lansbury Rumored to Join 'Game of Thrones' Season 7 (Update: Not True)
UPDATE: So, the rumor that Angela Lansbury was cast in season 7 of "Game of Thrones" is NOT TRUE. Entertainment Weekly confirmed with the actress's reps that she is not appearing in the upcoming season, which recently started filming.
Still, it would've been really cool to see Jessica Fletcher in Westeros.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Murder, she wrote — would be a great subtitle for "Game of Thrones." So, it would be incredibly apt casting for Angela Lansbury to join season 7 of the HBO drama.
That's the rumor lighting up the internet thanks to German site Bild, which claims the 90-year-old actress has a "minor cameo role" in two episodes next season.
Lansbury is a veteran actress with numerous TV and movie credits over seven decades, including "Murder, She Wrote," "Beauty and the Beast," "Bedknobs and Broomsticks," "The Manchurian Candidate," and "National Velvet."
She would be the second high-profile British actor to join "Game of Thrones" season, after Jim Broadbent. The report indicated she would be on set for just four days; filming has begun and cast members have been seen in Belfast.
Since the show has outpaced George R.R. Martin's books, it's impossible to say which character she might play. It might be someone from the books (Slashfilm speculated she could play an older version of Maggy the Frog, the fortune teller who foresaw that Cersei's children would die). It might be a completely invented person. And in any case, this is just a rumor. We'll have to wait and see if Jessica Fletcher does bring her crime-solving skills to Westeros.
