Alas, "Atlanta" Season 3 isn't coming back as soon as fans might have hoped.

When FX announced the show's renewal in June, the network made no promises about a 2019 return. Now, we see that was a smart call. During a TCA event on Monday, FX CEO John Landgraf confirmed that the series isn't moving forward as quickly as planned.

Scheduling has been a challenge, as many suspected it would be given that Donald Glover is the show's creator as well as one of its stars, writers, and directors. He is "sort of the king of all media," Landgraf said, and Glover has had a lot to balance, and not just work.

"He's had personal things he's had to deal with, from injuries to other things I'd rather not say publicly that just have to do not with his personal life but his extended family," Landgraf said.

While the multi-hyphenate may be the most essential piece of the puzzle, he's not the only one. Co-stars Brian Tyree Henry ("If Beale Street Could Talk"), Lakeith Stanfield ("The Girl in the Spider's Web"), and Zazie Beetz ("Deadpool 2") are also in high demand. They'll all have to coordinate their schedules somehow.

The good news is that "Atlanta" Season 3 is still moving forward. Landgraf noted that the writers are "back working right now." While the CEO wishes the show could "get everything back on an annual basis," he explained that they're "erring on the side of quality" rather than quantity. We'll get the third season eventually -- we'll just have to be patient.
