Blake Lively Outsmarts a Shark in Bloody Intense 'The Shallows' Trailer
Never mind a bigger boat, Blake Lively's character in "The Shallows" would probably settle for a raft.
A new trailer for the summer horror thriller was just released, showing Lively's character, medical student/surfer Nancy, just trying to relax in "Paradise" when a shark attempts to bring her down. The shark does not keep her down, but we see it LEAP out of the water to chew on another surfer. Nancy takes refuge on a rock close-and-yet-so-far-from shore, and works out a plan to outsmart this new Jaws, "The Martian"-style.
And here's the official synopsis from Sony:
"In the taut thriller The Shallows, when Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing on a secluded beach, she finds herself on the feeding ground of a great white shark. Though she is stranded only 200 yards from shore, survival proves to be the ultimate test of wills, requiring all of Nancy's ingenuity, resourcefulness, and fortitude."
Apparently Ryan Reynolds inspired Blake to take on this role. As she told Entertainment Weekly, "My husband did a movie called 'Buried' and that was one of the reasons why I wanted to take on this movie so much, because I know how tough that was for him and how rewarding it was. It was terrifying and one of the most vulnerable things you can do but you gotta do it, right?"
"The Shallows" is currently scheduled for release on June 29.
