Caitlin Carver to Play Margot Robbie's Skating Rival in 'I, Tonya'
One of the most unforgettable rivalries of the 1990s is coming back, and Caitlin Carver gets to be at the center of it.
Carver has been cast in the upcoming biopic "I, Tonya," which centers on two-time Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding. The actress will play Harding's biggest U.S. rival, Nancy Kerrigan, Deadline reports. The role puts her opposite Margot Robbie, who is playing Harding.
Kerrigan and Harding were tied together in scandal in 1994, when a man infamously attacked Kerrigan leading up to the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Caught on camera, the incident itself was dramatic, but it became all the more so when it was revealed that Harding was involved. The event ultimately led to her being banned from the U.S. Figure Skating Association, bringing about the end of her skating career.
Carver comes to the project having previously appeared in "Paper Towns" and "Rules Don't Apply." She joins a cast that also includes Allison Janney, Sebastian Stan, Juliane Nicholson, and Paul Hauser. The film is currently shooting with Craig Gillespie directing.
Let's hope the movie is as memorable as the scandal.
