Charlize Theron to Play Megyn Kelly in Roger Ailes Movie
Oscar winner Charlize Theron will star as Megyn Kelly in an upcoming movie about disgraced Fox News chairman Roger Ailes.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Theron is teaming up with director Jay Roach ("Trumbo") and producers Annapurna Films (which is putting out a Dick Cheney biopic starring Christian Bale).
Ailes oversaw the rise of Fox News, where he launched the careers of Sean Hannity, Gretchen Carlson, and Kelly. He was a prominent Republican supporter, helping elect presidents Ronald Reagan and George Bush. Ailes was forced to resign from Fox News in 2016 due to many allegations of sexual misconduct, including from Carlson and Kelly.
Theron will embody Kelly, the lawyer-turned-Fox News anchor who hosted the popular news program "The Kelly File" before she defected to NBC. Fox News reportedly attempted to persuade Kelly to come out in support of Ailes, but she refused.
The project is described as an ensemble pic and characters will likely include Carlson, former hosts Greta Van Susteren and Bill O'Reilly, and media mogul Rupert Murdoch.
