Chris Pratt Flick 'Cowboy Ninja Viking' Lands Summer 2019 Release Date
Chris Pratt has been dominating the headlines this week after announcing his split from wife Anna Faris. But now, it's his work that's back in the spotlight: His newest high-profile acting project just nabbed a release date.
Studio Universal revealed on Tuesday that "Cowboy Ninja Viking," starring Pratt as the titular multi-talented hero, will be hitting theaters on June 28, 2019. (So far, the seventh "Transformers" movie is its only competition.) Per Variety, "Cowboy" -- based on a graphic novel by A.J. Lieberman and illustrator Riley Rossmo -- focuses on an "assassin who manifests the toughest skills of three different personas: a cowboy, a ninja, and a viking," and is being billed as a "hard-edged actioner laced with attitude." Sounds like a perfect fit for Pratt.
There is no director attached yet, after "John Wick" helmers David Leitch and Chad Stahelski -- who were linked to the project at one point -- departed to direct "Deadpool 2" and "John Wick 3," respectively. Filmmakers are reportedly "actively meeting with candidates" for the gig, according to Variety.
Universal is no doubt hoping to continue its fruitful relationship with Pratt, who headlines the studio's lucrative "Jurassic World" franchise. He recently completed work on the sequel "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom," which is due in theaters in June 2018.
With this latest flick on the horizon, it sounds like Pratt will continue to rule the summer multiplex for the foreseeable future.
