Daniel Craig to Return for 'Final Bond' Movie After Tom Hiddleston Deemed 'Too Smug': Report
Daniel Craig may be fine, but Tom Hiddleston should be feeling shaken and stirred right about now.
"Multiple sources" told Page Six that James Bond franchise producer Barbara Broccoli has "just about persuaded Daniel Craig to do one more Bond movie." They are reportedly still in talks, but those talks "are going in the right direction." A source added, "They have a script — screenwriting duo Neal Purvis and Robert Wade [who've penned several Bond movies] are writing and they'll go into production as soon as Daniel is ready to commit."
And now for the extra diss at Tom Hiddleston's expense:
The source added, "Plus, Barbara Broccoli doesn't like Tom Hiddleston, he's a bit too smug and not tough enough to play James Bond."
BURN. Well, now they've got bad blood. Hiddleston had mad love for the idea of playing Bond 007 and was not shy about saying he was open for the position. But the position was never officially open, despite Daniel Craig saying he'd rather slash his wrists than do another Bond movie. That started dream casting speculation, but Craig explained that he was just knee-jerk reacting to the end of a long, painful shoot for "Spectre."
We may be able to thank "Othello" for Craig's return (if it happens, nothing is official yet). Broccoli produced Craig's off-Broadway play, and -- as another source told Page Six -- "Daniel had such a good time in 'Othello,' produced by Barbara, that he's ready to do a final Bond."
"Final Bond" means that, if Craig does return for one more, someone will still have to take the job after the next movie ... and it probably won't be Tom Hiddleston. How about Idris Elba? Would you consider him too smug and not tough enough?
