Darren Criss Joins 'AHS: Hotel' in Juicy Anti-'Glee' Role
"Glee" just about sums up our thoughts on "American Horror Story: Hotel." Everything we hear about it makes us want to ring that bell for service stat. The show's "Glee" alum Darren Criss' new role.
Here's the latest from Ryan Murphy, via Entertainment Weekly:
Do you have any scoop on the upcoming season of American Horror Story? — Tanya
We already know that Darren Criss will be checking into Hotel for the big Halloween outing, playing a hipster who shows up with his girlfriend. And this character is going to be very different from Blaine Anderson. "This role for Darren, we wrote it and he was the first person we thought of because Darren has told me he wants to do edgier, darker material, so this plays into that," executive producer Ryan Murphy teases. But the real question is whether he'll be leaving those bow ties behind.
E! News had a previous report noting that Darren was in talks for the role of Justin, described as "a Silver Lake hipster who heads to the hotel on Halloween with his equally hip girlfriend to escape pesky trick-or-treaters. But after one too many room service demands, Kathy Bates' character, the head of the hotel, gives Criss' character a Halloween trick they will never forget. Let that sink in for a moment: Kathy Bates vs. Darren Criss. Yeah. We're in."
Completely. Sign us up for some schooling from Kathy Bates. "AHS: Hotel" has a massive cast, including a ton of returning AHS faves and newbies like Lady Gaga. And, as Ryan Murphy noted during Comic-Con, "Hotel" is set in the AHS universe, so we'll see some crossovers:
We have a long-term plan with the show. Things are connected. So characters are connected to different seasons. [Pepper] obviously is the first. This season you'll see more and more of that. Characters from previous seasons will come back and check into the hotel. It's part of a connected universe with a pretty cool thesis statement at the end of the run."
A thesis! If only we'd known we could major in "American Horror Story," things could've been so different. Are you excited to see Darren get edgy and annoyingly hipsterish in "AHS: Hotel"?
