David Duchovny Says New 'X-Files' Is 'Fantastic,' Wants More Episodes
"X-Files" fans are no doubt beside themselves with glee over the upcoming revival of the beloved Fox sci-fi series, and that includes the show's star, David Duchovny.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor revealed that he was so emotional over resurrecting Mulder, Scully, and co. that he shed a few tears when he first read the new script.
"It was just so strange to see the names on the page," Duchovny told EW. " ... It was just like, I'd been talking about this for a long time. We'd been planning it for a long time. It took a long time to get all the people in the same place and get the deal with Fox. ... Now it's the fun part. Now we actually get to do it."
As for what that script entailed, Duchovny wasn't biting -- "I can tell you absolutely nothing—and it's fantastic," the actor said -- but he did reveal that the six new episodes would feature a mix of standalone stories and the mythology for which the series was known. And creator Chris Carter may not be stopping at six, either.
"I would be open to doing another cycle," Duchovny said of extending the revival for another round. "I don't know that I could do a 20-episode version of this show at this point in my life, and I don't know that Gillian [Anderson] could. But I think everybody is open ended on what happens after this. Certainly, we didn't bring it back with the idea of ending it."
We'd say "trust no one" when it comes to talk about more "X-Files," but considering that this reboot is officially happening, we'll stay cautiously optimistic about the promise of additional episodes down the road.
"The X-Files" returns to Fox on January 22, 2016.
