It's impossible not to love Dwayne Johnson! After rising to fame while dominating the wrestling world, The Rock switched over and made a name for himself as an actor and quickly became a bona fide movie star. Click through to celebrate all the reasons we adore him, just in time for his 43rd birthday on May 2, 2015!
Wrestling is in his blood.
Dwayne Johnson was the WWF's first third-generation wrestler. His father, Rocky Johnson, and his maternal grandfather, Peter Maivia, both made careers for themselves in the wrestling world. The Rock dominates the family sport, and has won 17 championships over the course of his wrestling career in the WWF and WWE.
He's an amazing son.
For Christmas, in 2012, Dwayne Johnson bought his mom, Ata Johnson, a brand new Cadillac truck. When posting pictures of the sweet moment to Twitter, The Rock explained the significance of the gift in his caption. "At 14 I saw my mom crying about our only car being repossessed. This felt good. #MerryXmasMom."
He's crazy generous.
Dwayne Johnson didn't stop at his mom: He's bought cars for other people in his life as well. In May 2013, he posted a photo to Instagram of the moment he gave cousin Tamina Snuka a brand new Lexus SUV. And, in January 2014, The Rock surprised his housekeeper of 10 years, Esperanza, with a brand new Ford Edge.
He's a doting dad.
Dwayne Johnson has a 13-year-old daughter, Simone Johnson, with former wife Dany Garcia. When he joined the "Fast & Furious" franchise, it made him quite the cool dad. He recently told Wonderwall.com's Jessica Wedemeyer: "She loves me in the franchise. She loves cool cars." But he makes sure to keep her down-to-earth, adding, "We don't live in [Los Angeles]. We live down in Florida in a little country town. She's used to my big pickup truck, so she's that type of girl."
He's a bona fide movie star.
Dwayne Johnson was the top-grossing actor of 2013. Forbes magazine gave The Rock that distinguished honor after his films brought in $1.3 billion worldwide. He dominated the box office that year with his films "Fast & Furious 6" and "G.I. Joe: Retaliation." A pretty fantastic feat for a former wrestler!
He's great to his fans.
In April 2015, Dwayne Johnson shared a sweet story on Instagram of a run-in with a cancer-stricken fan on Easter. He shared details of the encounter on social media, captioning the picture: "After my workout I'm drivin' in my pick up and notice these kids in the rearview mirror screamin' & runnin' after my truck. Thought to myself, 'Should I stop or keep drivin'? I stopped. I hop out of my truck and this kid runs up to me, hugs the hell outta me and says it's been his life's dream to meet me and tell me how much I've inspired him to fight cancer (Hodgkin's lymphoma) and hard core chemo and stem cell transplant treatments. He was a little teary eyed and said for months and months all he's wanted to do was find me and say this face to face. I told him what it meant to me to hear this story. I thanked him, hugged him (and his friends), got back in my truck and drove away. As I'm drivin' I start shaking my head (and tearing up) at how fragile life is and how amazing and cool the universe was to make this meeting happen between myself and this special kid Nick Miller. Let's always take a moment to count our blessings.. cause there's always something to be grateful for. Happy Easter y’all."
He's a dog lover.
Dwayne Johnson has a pack of dogs and is known to post tons of snaps of his pups -- French bulldogs Louie and Pierre, and Hank the shih tzu -- all over his social media feeds. He posted this snapshot back in November 2013 with the caption: "As the Silverback, I immediately establish my dominance over anything that breathes... aaaaand Pierre could care less. #JoysOfBeingHome #LoveUBuddy"
He dominates #ThrowbackThursday.
The Rock is known to post some great vintage pictures on social media, including some epic throwbacks that involve his excellent '90s style, like this one from 1997 that he captioned: "Fanny pack and lean take it to a whole other level.. #90sRock #WTF #BuffLesbian."
He can sing.
Showing off his skills in December 2014, Dwayne Johnson sang "Here Comes Santa Claus" on "Live with Kelly and Michael" and impressed everyone with his skills. And he did it all while wearing a festive onesie!
He's got style.
Dwayne Johnson always pulls out all the stops when making a red carpet appearance. Just check out this look from the "Furious 7" premiere in Los Angeles in April 2015. The Rock really pulls off that all-blue ensemble!
