Following his recent Best Actor Oscar-win for "The Theory of Everything," Eddie Redmayne brings to the big screen the story of yet another fascinating figure in "The Danish Girl."

The British star portrays Einar Wegener, an artist who became one of the first-known recipients of a sex reassignment operation in 1931, taking the name Lili Elbe. Throughout the 1920s, Wegener was married to fellow artist Gerda Wegener, played by Alicia Vikander, and modeled for her portraits while dressed as a woman.

The cast includes Ben Whishaw, Sebastian Koch, Amber Heard and Matthias Schoenaerts.

"The Danish Girl" will be presented at the Venice Film Festival and hits theaters Nov. 27.
