Ellen DeGeneres Reveals How Two Glasses of Wine Sent Her to the ER
Ellen DeGeneres "dislocated" her finger and it was hilarious. It's not funny that she was in pain, but Ellen is Ellen because only she can turn the story of drinking wine, falling into a door, and going to the emergency room into a comedy routine you need to watch.
The star addressed her bandaged finger in a 5-minute segment on Tuesday's show.
"So, you know how in gymnastics when you do a one-handed cartwheel and you have to spread the weight evenly between all your fingers? Well, I had two glasses of wine and fell into a door, is what I did. Portia [De Rossi] and I were coming home from a dinner party. We drive home, almost at the front door, literally at the door. The dogs were so excited to see us, and I caught the lip of the top step. I was a foot away from the door and I fell into the door and it did something to my finger, I knew something was wrong, I looked at my finger and this is what it looked like."
They showed a pretty gross photo of her finger twisted in an unnatural position.
"My first thought was 'No big deal, Obamacare will cover this.' Portia drove me to the hospital — to the emergency room. [...] They did an Xray of my finger [she showed the broken finger photo above]. It turns out, I didn't break it, I dislocated my finger. That's what they call it, which is an incorrect term because I knew where it was located. It was just wrongly located is what it was.
So, do you know what they do when you dislocate your finger? It's very technical. What they do is they take the part that's dislocated and then they just snap it right back into place. [...] Before they did it, I was in incredible pain and [my nurse] said, 'Do you want a shot?' And I said, 'No, I had two glasses of wine — that's what got me into this mess in the first place.' She meant a shot to numb my finger. She said, 'You're gonna feel a little prick.' This is a daytime show — you make up your own joke there. She said 'You're gonna feel a little prick and then some burning.' And there was burning all right."
Burning, followed by a lot of cursing! Watch the video for her full story:
