Emilia Clarke Joins Han Solo Movie as Female Lead
Mother of Dragons, meet Han, Chewie, and Lando! "Game of Thrones" world as Daenerys Targaryen, and the "Terminator" world as Sarah Connor, and now she's part of the "Star Wars" galaxy, joining the Han Solo standalone movie as _______.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
We'll find out when we find out.
StarWars.com announced the news, simply saying they were excited to announce that Clarke would join the upcoming untitled Han Solo movie. "Clarke's role will round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures."
So now we have three official cast members: Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, and Clarke as this mystery character. Chewbacca is also returning, and this movie is said to be something of an origin story for Han and Chewie, but no one has 100 percent said Peter Mayhew is returning to play him.
According to Variety, this solo movie "has had some of the more grueling testing sessions for all three leads going back to the beginning of the year." They said "Selma" and "Creed" star Tessa Thompson, "Power Rangers" actress Naomi Scott, and Zoe Kravitz tested for Clarke's role in October. "Another group, which included Clarke, Kiersey Clemons, and Jessica Henwick, tested in London with Clarke ultimately landing the role."
What does this mean for "Game of Thrones"? Clarke is currently shooting GoT Season 7, but Season 8 is the final season, so it's possible she will bounce between filming for both GoT Season 8 and Han Solo. The untitled standalone movie is currently scheduled for a May 2018 release.
