Emmys 2017 Viewers Split on Announcer Jermaine Fowler: Awesome or Annoying?
The "Superior Donuts" star Jermaine Fowler as announcer, and fans weren't sure what to think.
When Fowler was excited about a presenter or winner HE WOULD LET YOU KNOW, which thrilled some fans and annoyed others.
Here are some reactions tweeted during the Sunday, Sept. 17 live show:
Whose idea was it to hire the shrill Jermaine Fowler as the Emmys announcer? And how does Superior Donuts qualify him for that? #emmys

Y'all, @jermaineFOWLER is in whatever back room @ the #Emmys ACTING UP!! I can't tell if him being the announcer is brilliant or disastrous.

Why does this #Emmys announcer SCREAM every thing?

Someone please tell the announcer that he has a mic. There is absolutely no reason to be shouting. #emmys#stripclubDJ

I am loving @jermaineFOWLER announcing at the #Emmys. Especially how he freaked out over @IssaRae, bc that's totally what I would do, too.

The fact that @jermaineFOWLER is TURNING TF UP every time a Black person wins or walks on that stage, is giving me life!! #Emmys.

Surely someone is already crunching the political demographics of the lovers/haters of Jermaine Fowler as emcee. #Emmys

Jack Sussman, CBS Entertainment EVP, music and live events, talked to Deadline about the choice to mix up the announcer role this year:
"What most awards show do is have the announcer locked in a closet reading from a script on cue. What we will do is have Jermaine be an active part of the show. He will be connected with what's happened on the telecast and what happens next. What we want to do is get a peek behind the curtain in a fun, engaging way."
