Thanks but no thanks to the World Cup, many countries -- including the U.K. -- won't get to see "Ant-Man and the Wasp" until more than a month after its initial release.

Evangeline Lilly, aka Hope van Dyne/The Wasp, told the British magazine Empire she's worried that delayed release will lead many fans to pirate the movie instead of waiting. After all, we're not just talking about any old sequel, we're talking about a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie that's expected to have some kind of lead-in to next year's "Captain Marvel" and "Avengers 4."

Still, while the U.S. will get to see the "Ant-Man" sequel on July 6, the U.K. and Poland have to wait until August 3, with Italy scheduled to get it August 14, then Portugal August 15, and Japan waiting until August 31.

Why? The World Cup is dominating international attention, delaying many releases (although "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" went the other way and opened overseas several weeks before the U.S.).

Evangeline Lilly shared her frustration with the equally frustrated folks at Empire (via CBM):

"They always do that. Then what happens is people just pirate the movie and they see it in the worst way possible, like some sh*tty version online, instead of going to a theater. They go in the end, but I don't like that staggering. I'm really going to get to the bottom of this for you. I'm as pissed off about it as you are."

Paul Rudd, aka Scott Lang/Ant-Man, added:

"I don't understand. Let me see if we can maybe get the World Cup moved."

Haha. Maybe just play snippets during breaks in the action.

Last we heard, "Ant-Man and the Wasp" was tracking for an opening of around $75 million at the North American box office, which would be better than the first film but modest for the MCU in general. But we'll see.

We get to see it in theaters July 6.
