Oscar Nominee Felicity Jones in Talks for 'Star Wars' Spinoff: Report
It seems that rumors that Tatiana Maslany has been offered the lead role in Gareth Edwards's still-untitled "Star Wars" spin-off film may have been premature: The Hollywood Reporter is now writing that Oscar nominee Felicity Jones, not Maslany, is the frontrunner for the part.
THR reports that the "Theory of Everything" star is currently in talks with Disney about the female lead role in the top-secret project. While THR says that Maslany was indeed in the running, as was Rooney Mara, it seems that Jones is currently the number one choice for the gig.
There's still no official word on just what character the standalone "Wars" flick will focus, though rumors have run the gamut from Boba Fett to Han Solo. According to THR, Edwards's flick is believed to have Aaron Paul and Edgar Ramirez on the shortlist for the male lead.
Considering how many times this casting has been "confirmed," we'll take this with a grain of salt for now. Stay tuned to see if Disney has any comment.
The flick in question is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 16, 2016.
