'Furious 7' Reaches $1 Billion Faster Than Any Movie Ever
As "Furious 7" continues its box office dominance, it has a new milestone to celebrate: It's now crossed the astounding $1 billion threshold at the global box office -- and it's the fastest that any movie has ever claimed that feat.
According to Variety, "Furious 7" zoomed to that jaw-dropping total in just 17 days (it officially hit the mark on Friday), beating previous champs "The Avengers," "Avatar," and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 2," which all took 19 days to accomplish that task. Box Office Mojo projects that "Furious 7" is currently sitting on a heap of $1.15 billion in international grosses, $294 million of that coming from domestic theaters.
As our own expert has predicted, "Furious 7" should have no trouble slaying the box office competition for the foreseeable future, until "Avengers: Age of Ultron" hits on May 1. That flick may yet beat "Furious 7"'s 17-day $1 billion record, but either way, Vin Diesel and co. should enjoy their victory lap.
"Furious 7" is only the 20th film ever to cross $1 billion at the global box office. It currently sits at number 7 on the list of all-time highest-grossing movies worldwide.
