FX is shutting down its ad-free streaming service, FX+.

The platform, which streamed past seasons of FX and FXX shows, will no longer be available after August 20. On that date, all subscriptions will automatically end.

FX+ was launched two years ago as a streaming add-on for Comcast cable subscribers. So for an additional $5.99 a month, they had access to more than 1,400 episodes of “Atlanta,” “American Horror Story,” “Damages,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “The Shield,” “Sons of Anarchy” and “Terriers."

Current seasons of FX and FXX original series will continue to air on those linear networks and be available for “limited time on-demand viewing” in the FXNow app and online at FXNetworks.com (you'll need to have a cable provider, though).

The shutdown isn't a surprise, in the wake of Disney's acquisition of most of 21st Century Fox’s entertainment assets. Disney is launching its own streaming service, Disney+, later this year. The company also has controlling interest in Hulu, which could be a natural home for the FX back catalog.
