'Game of Thrones' Adds Max Von Sydow as Three-Eyed Raven
Watch out, Bran Stark — Max von Sydow is coming for you!
The legendary actor ("Minority Report," "Star Wars: The Force Awakens") is joining the cast of "Game of Thrones" in season 6 as the Three-Eyed Raven, a mystical being who teaches Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) to use his gifts as a warg. The character was last seen in the season 4 finale, played by Struan Rodger.
Von Sydow won't have a ton of screen time, but will be highly influential Bran's storyline was put on hold this year, to allow space for other plots, but the young Stark will return having spent time under the Three-Eyed Raven's tutelage. Showrunner David Benioff likened it to Luke Skywalker's training with Yoda.
"Like, it would be far less interesting, after 'The Empire Strikes Back' to have an hour-long movie in between 'Empire' and 'Return of the Jedi' where Luke is training," he told Entertainment Weekly.
