'Game of Thrones' Star Emilia Clarke 'Can't Stand' Gratuitous Sex Scenes
Looks like we won't be seeing Khaleesi in bed anytime soon.
"Game of Thrones," told the Daily Mail that she's not a fan of explicit sex scenes — the very kind that her show has become known for.
Sex scenes should be more subtle," she said. "I'm British, so I cringe at that sort of thing anyway — I can't stand it."
Clarke has been naked on the show before, most notably at the end of season 1, when Daenerys rises out of the ashes of a funereal fire with three baby dragons clinging to her. But since then, she's reportedly told producers she doesn't want to do any more nude scenes.
Certainly, her character is busy with other things (trying to consolidate her rule over slave states, managing those growing dragons), but other storylines on "Game of Thrones" have featured explicit sex scenes in brothels and elsewhere. And it's become something of a joke for a character to explain something important while engaged in sex (aka "sexposition").
"I don't want to have sex thrown in my face and I've always thought the suggestion is so much more titillating than the act itself," Clarke said. "On screen, the subtler the better."
