'Game of Thrones' Season 7 Casts More Mystery Roles
"Game of Thrones" Season 7, but for new actors cast on the show, it has to be the thrill of a lifetime.
Watchers on the Wall recently shared casting notices for some new actors joining the HBO series in roles that have yet to be fully revealed. They may be tiny roles, they may be major. No clue yet. But keep in mind the previously casting calls for roles like a general, city guard, priest, warrior, young posh lord, and a Northern girl and boy.
Here are the latest bits of intel:
• Koner: Actor Joseph Quinn's agency CV shows he'll be appearing in Season 7 as a character named 'Koner.'" As WotW noted, there is no Koner in the books written by George R.R. Martin, so it's anyone's guess who that might be. (Perhaps the Gate Guard in this casting notice?) The CV/resume lists his director as "Various," which could indicate that he's in multiple episodes or it could indicate that the agency wasn't sure of the director so they left it blank for now. For some background, IMDb lists Joseph Quinn in the regular role of Arthur Havisham in the TV series "Dickensian."
• Frey? Another agency CV revealed Irish actor Paul Ward (height 6'0, character age range 48-52) as having "recently wrapped filming on Season 7 of HBO's Game of Thrones." Not sure what role he may have, but many WotW commenters have pointed out that he has a Frey look to him. Or he could play a guard or even a general.
• Northern girl: You may have seen a red-haired actress photographed on set with the core GoT cast. She was initially reported as Sophie Turner's (Sansa) body double, but Watchers on the Wall corrected that with the help of a commenter, who identified the actress as 19-year-old Megan Parkinson. The photo on set showed her in Northern style. The first casting notice for Season 7 included one for a 16-year-old Northern girl as part of "a high-stakes scene with leading cast members." That would fit with the photos, which showed her with Kit Harington (Jon Snow) and others.
• Rhaegar? This is more speculation than anything, but some fans think singer Devin Oliver may have been cast as young Rhaegar Targaryen (who did like to sing, as we've been told). Oliver posted this photo with a GoT Season 7 tease, and it found its way to Reddit and Mashable, etc.:
Well, sure, we may or may not have made an appearance in Season 7, too. (Spoiler alert: For us, it's may not.) All we know for sure is that Jim Broadbent will be playing a "significant" role in Season 7. We'll learn more in good time, and we're on standby for the first trailer, which probably won't be arriving until early 2017, with the seven-episode season set to premiere in the summer.
