Former 'Grey's Anatomy' Star Sara Ramirez Says CBS Is 'Open to Callie Coming Back': 'The Ball Is In ABC's Court'
"Grey's Anatomy" fans have had to say goodbye to a lot of good doctors over the years, but sometimes, we get to see them again.
We're still holding out hope that Sara Ramirez will return as her character, Dr. Callie Torres, and we're definitely not the only ones. The actress herself tweeted on Wednesday, Sept. 26 about the possibility of returning, and she seemed to indicate that CBS would let her fit in a guest appearance around her "Madam Secretary" schedule.
"For the record @CBS has been nothing but gracious and generous to me," she wrote. "They are open to Callie coming back! The ball is in @ABCNetwork 's court."
It's unclear what exactly prompted Ramirez's tweet, but fans were previously disappointed when she didn't reprise her role in the Season 14 finale for the departure of Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw). When creator Shonda Rhimes was asked about Callie returning during an Instagram Stories "Ask Me Anything" Q&A in August, she said that "CBS has a hold of [Ramirez]" and they couldn't get her "because she's on another show." Now, the actress's tweet says that the network is "open to Callie coming back," but it doesn't specify what, if anything, changed.
Whatever led to Ramirez's tweet, we're optimistic now that the ball is apparently in ABC's court. We've reached out to the network for comment and will update if we hear back.
To quote Rhimes in her Q&A, "Come home, Callie."
