'Grey's Anatomy' Fans Are Not Coping Well With Exit of 2 Major Characters
"Grey's Anatomy" fans are reeling after learning that the show will not bring back longtime stars Sarah Drew and Jessica Capshaw in Season 15. In fact, the "anger" stage of grief has definitely begun.
After the news broke Thursday, co-showrunner Krista Vernoff explained in a tweet that it was "right creatively" to write out Drew and Capshaw's characters, April and Arizona. Fans, however, clearly beg to differ. The frustration has been abundant on Twitter, where many people are airing grievances and criticizing Vernoff directly.
As rumors began to swirl that Ellen Pompeo's newly negotiated salary had led to the two actresses having to be let go, Vernoff jumped into the conversation. She spoke out against the speculation, calling it "hurtful and misguided."
"It smacks of an old, broken, patriarchal notion that women must be pitted against one another and that one woman's success will be costly to others," she tweeted, in part.

Still, the "Grey's Anatomy" fan base is angry right now regardless of Vernoff's reasons -- and rightfully so. Capshaw joined in Season 5 and Drew in Season 6, meaning we've been invested in their fictional lives for nearly a decade.

Never seen a more toxic show runner than one Krista Vernoff. She epically ruined the show is less than a season and is still pushing incest. Wow. #GreysAnatomy

#GreysAnatomy has disappointed many of us for the last time. @sarahdrew was one of the few reasons I continued to watch. She will be missed on my screen, but the show won't.

Alas, in spite of the outcry, the decision has been made. Let's just hope the characters aren't killed off so Vernoff and "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes will have the option to bring them back later.
