'Grey's Anatomy' Season 14 Will Have Comedy, But 'You'll Still Need Your Tissue Box,' Says Giacomo Gianniotti
What would an episode of "Grey's Anatomy" be if it didn't call for tissues? Well, we'll probably never know.
There may be Season 14 spoilers ahead.
Giacomo Gianniotti (Andrew DeLuca) recently chatted with THR, and he teased a mix of comedy and drama in Season 14. Specifically, he indicated that the regulars will be a big focus, but guest characters will bring the usual tear-jerking moments.
"We'll still have our guest stars coming in where you'll still need your tissue box," he said, "but we're going to enjoy our characters having a bit of fun and swing between a little drama and comedy."
For his character, that could mean revisiting his crush on Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) -- perhaps as one of the many love triangles in the upcoming season. All of that romantic drama will apparently get us on a different track. Things will be "lighter and funnier" than they were last season, according to Giannotti.
Kelly McCreary (Maggie Pierce) corroborated her co-star's assessment, highlighting that the return of former "Grey's" writer and executive producer Krista Vernoff has made a difference. Vernoff left after Season 8 to work on other Shondaland shows, but now that she's back, she is making things "light, bouncy and fun," says McCreary.
"As these characters have matured, they're going to go through dramatic stuff in their lives. ... And we've gotten to see all of that in the last several seasons," she told THR. "It feels like we're taking little shifts back toward things being a bit easier on everybody."
Thank goodness. While we don't mind needing tissues on hand, we don't want to go through a box an episode.
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 14 premieres Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
