HGTV Buys 'Brady Bunch' House, Will Restore It to '70s Glory
Here's the story of a lovely TV network that bought the "Brady Bunch" house.
HGTV announced it won the bidding rights for the house that was used for exterior shots of the family home in "The Brady Bunch."
"I am excited to share that HGTV is the winning bidder and will restore the Brady Bunch home to its 1970s glory as only HGTV can," said Discovery CEO David Zaslav on a second quarter earnings conference call.
"More details to come over the next few months, but we will bring all the resources to bear to tell safe, fun stories with this beloved piece of American TV history," he added.
HGTV's triumph comes at the expense of former 'NSYNC singer Lance Bass, who tweeted Friday that his bid had won. But then, Sunday, he gave an update that "his dream come true" had been demolished by a "Corporate Buyer (Hollywood studio) who wants the house at any cost."
“How is this fair or legal?” Bass continued. “How can I compete with a billion dollar corporate entity? I truly believe I was used to drive up the price of the home … It’s not a good feeling. I feel used but most importantly I’m hurt and saddened by this highly questionable outcome."
It seems likely the network will create a show about renovating and remodeling the home. HGTV did not reveal how much they spent to buy the 2,500 square-foot house, which is located at 11222 Dilling Street in Studio City, California.
