In "The Man Who Invented Christmas," Dan Stevens summons the ghost of Charles Dickens past, showing surprising side of the author.

"It was, I suppose, briefly intimidating and then quite exciting really because I realized there hadn't been that many portrayals of the man himself on screen," Stevens tells Made in Hollywood reporter Damaris Diaz. "We've seen many, many adaptations of 'A Christmas Carol' and his other works. He's an illusive character on screen, but there's so much to say about him. He had a very, very interesting life."

This story of how Dickens brings Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and other classic characters to life, forever changing the holiday season into the celebration known today, "The Man Who Invented Christmas" takes the author off the English 101 syllabus and shows him as a relatable, modern man.

"He's a man on fire. He's wanting to prove himself. He's a bit of a rock star," says director Bharat Nalluri. "And he's really struggling to make his mark. He's incredibly handsome. Luckily Dan comes somewhat close to that."

As Stevens revisited "A Christmas Carol" it struck him "how funny Dickens was," he says. "Quite a weird sense of humor, as well, his taste for the surreal and the supernatural."
