Hugh Jackman is a hero on and off the big screen.

The "Wolverine" actor sat down with Stephen Colbert on "The Late Show" to speak about becoming involved in Global Citizen, an organization that aims to erradicate extreme poverty.

Sitting with Hugh Evans, the founder of Global Citizen on the talk show, Jackson says his initial meeting with Evans was in 2008 at a conference. The meeting, he admits, started off with huge gaffe on his part.

"There was a guy in a black suit and white shirt and I presumed it was the waiter," Jackson recalls, saying he ordered a gin and tonic from the mysterious man. The man got actually him a drink, too.

The "waiter" was Evans.

"He was actually one of the delegates," Jackman explains, "He was the Young Australian of the Year. I was so embarrassed, like I'd asked him to get me a drink."

For there, though, the two became fast friends with a mutual hope.

"But three hours later we were still talking and that's when I realized that of course, like most people in the world, we want to see an end to extreme poverty, but any idea I had was kind of redundant after talking to Hugh, so I said, 'Listen Hugh, I just want to jump on board, whatever you're doing I'm in' and this is it."
