Steven Spielberg succeeds yet again with his latest directorial effort, the biographical drama, "Bridge of Spies."

Critics are praising not only Spielberg, but the film's stars, including Tom Hanks, who plays James B. Donovan, an American lawyer recruited to help rescue a pilot detained in the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

The movie, which hits theaters on Friday, received an astounding 91 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has reviewers in awe of its suspense and believability.

"Watching a Spielberg movie is like riding in the back of an old Town Car. There’s plenty of room, the construction is solid, you know you’re heading somewhere, and even if there are bumps, the ride is always smooth. Indeed, Steven Spielberg is so smooth, so good at what he does, that his best movies have a way of seeming inevitable, when they’re the furthest thing from it. Case in point, 'Bridge of Spies,' which is the product of some thousand (or ten thousand) decisions that all happened to be right, from the casting, to the choice of shots, to the direction of the actors, to the costumes and art direction." -- Mick LaSalle, SFGate.com

Some even say this is the famed director's best film in almost two decades.

"Three-time Oscar winner Steven Spielberg will almost certainly collect a pair of additional Best Picture and Best Director nominations for the thoroughly engrossing, old-school Cold War thriller 'Bridge of Spies,' which premiered to a standing ovation Sunday night at the New York Film Festival and is based on a true story. In Spielberg’s best film since 'Saving Private Ryan,' his frequent collaborator Tom Hanks emerges as a strong Best Actor candidate for his flawless performance ..." -- Lou Lumenick, NYPost.com

Some also advise not to overlook the film's incredible visuals and effects.

"Steven Spielberg's sincere and gently thrilling 'Bridge of Spies,' [is] based on a true story and set in the darkest days of the Cold War with the Soviet Union ... But there's also simmering tension and a tremendous Spielberg payoff, with beautiful visuals – lots of diffused light glowing through frosted windows and impressively recreated sections of Cold War Berlin – adding to the heft of the project." -- Donald Munro, Fresno Bee
