Ronda Rousey started it, the fans gave it life and now a honcho at Marvel Studios may -- may -- have given it his blessing.

It's the campaign to have the fight champ play Capt. Marvel, and it just got a huge boost when Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige expressed appreciation for what the fans are doing.

"I love it," he tells IGN.com. "That happens occasionally, and I think that's a testament more to the strength of the characters."

He added: "Going back to my early days at Marvel, there were always various people campaigning to be Wolverine. I guess that was pre-Twitter and pre-Internet days, but still for some reason would pop up in Wizard Magazine. Wizard Magazine would always have 'this person wants to play this role!' It's a testament to how great the characters are that it appeals to such a wide range of talented, talented people."

Rousey started the buzz with her comments during a Reddit AMA when she told a fan asking what superhero she'd want to play: "I'd like to vie for Miss Marvel." She then posted this fan art on Instagram (below).

Although the role of Capt. Marvel is still officially up for grabs, Rousey would have to fit it into a busy schedule. In addition to her day job winning MMA fights, she's set to play herself in a biopic and take on the role played buy Patrick Swayze in a Roadhouse reboot.
