5 Reasons Why Jennifer Lawrence Should Play Captain Marvel
Jennifer Lawrence has room on her resume for one more Marvel franchise. Once she completes "X-Men: Apocalypse," unless a new deal can be made, her dance card will be open. Here are five reasons why she should fill it by starring in Marvel's "Captain Marvel" movie.
1. She Looks the Part
Carol Danvers is more than just an attractive member of Marvel's line-up. Like Lawrence, she is a very confident, very assured, heroine. If she can't find a way out of trouble, she makes one. She's a natural leader, she flies and she can more than hold her own opposite Thor and Steve Rogers. Moreover, she's insanely likable -- with a vulnerable edge underneath that ass-kicking exterior. Captain Marvel could be the first super-powered woman to truly elevate the genre, and there's no better person who can help the character earn that than the Oscar-winner.
2. She Has the Fanbase
Marvel Studio's marketing forces will sell the sh-t out of the movie, for sure. Having an international star like Lawrence front and center on all the ads and posters can't hurt. A movie from the makers of "Iron Man," starring Katniss?! That sound you hear are people buying ALL the tickets.
3. The Action Scenes Are No Problem
Danvers loves a good kick-punching. And if her movie franchise is being positioned to add her to the "Infinity War" roster of heroes, expect lots of fisticuffs. Lawrence can handle both the physical and emotional demands of the role; "Hunger Games" is basically a four-movie demo tape for the part.
4. She's An Exceptional Actor
Lawrence is a three-time Academy Award nominated person, and a one-time winner. Captain Marvel is very accomplished, very human, hero in the MCU; a person we laugh with but never at. Someone who can fight the good fight one minute, rally the troops the next -- and in between, take inventory of the emotional toll such heroics take. Lawrence's acting range is scary-good, and more than enough to accommodate the character's needs -- both on and off the battlefield.
5. Her Personality Fits Carol's
'Nuff said.
