Kelly Ripa Skips 'Live' After Michael Strahan's Surprise Quit Announcement
Awkward! Yesterday, the news came out that Michael Strahan was leaving "Live with Kelly and Michael" to head over to "Good Morning America" full time. Kelly Ripa may have been upset from the blindside, or just not in the mood for light banter, 'cause she skipped today's show. It was not expected for her to do that, so Strahan had to fill time with guest co-host Ana Gasteyer, and address his exit without Ripa.
Ripa reportedly learned of Strahan's departure plan shortly after Tuesday's show wrapped. At the end of Wednesday's show, Strahan addressed his absent co-host:
"I really want to thank of course Kelly Ripa because Kelly welcomed me here and I've learned so much from her. She's been an amazing influence on me and it has truly changed my life to be here with her. I know that the show will continue to be strong and great because of Kelly and Michael Gelman and the staff here. Everybody is so talented and this show has not been around for over 30 years by mistake... Kelly, I thank you and I love you and everyone else here at Live."
Here's his exit announcement:
He's not even leaving until September, so if there is tension between Kelly and Michael they still have to stretch this thing out for the next five months. But he said he'd return to guest host, so they can't hate each other or anything. Right? Ripa may just be upset with ABC for letting her be one of the last to know.
