Kristen Stewart Really Does Smile a Lot

Don't believe your eyes, Kristen Stewart really does smile on occasion.

"I smile a lot, I swear," the notoriously stone-faced actress tells Jimmy Fallon Tuesday on "The Tonight Show." "It's weird that that notion is so perpetuated."

The unapologetically awkward "Twilight" star defended her reputation for having a sourpuss expression, citing that the many magazine covers that she has graced require her to not smile. "I blame Marie Claire," she jokes.

In fact, she says one day she was extra chipper while going for a walk around New York City, but that plan backfired.

"I went out yesterday and wanted to be able take a walk around New York without being followed by paparazzi so I went out," she explains, adding that she was rather cheerful during her stroll. "I'd been doing a press room for 'American Ultra' and every question is, 'so apparently you think you do smile.' I swear to you I do."

The next day, paparazzi was swarming her building because they all wanted a photo of a smiling Stewart. Apparently, the star learned the bounty is quite high for Stewart flashing a grin.

"I can do it, whether or not I smile at you…," she jokes.

In fact, the smiles are aplenty in her new film "American Ultra." "It's a fully-formed comedy," she says.

"American Ultra" is in theaters Aug. 21.
