"I ain't afraid to die anymore. I dun it already," Leonardo DiCaprio as his out-for-revenge character says in the new trailer for "The Revenant."
Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, the actor takes on man and beast as a real-life frontiersman Hugh Glass in the early 19th-century.
The western-thriller is based on true events of his survival odyssey as he narrowly escapes death after being mauled by a bear while on a fur trapping expedition.
Abandoned by his party, some cohorts were left behind to care for Glass until his death due to serious injury. But his caregivers had other plans.
"We did what we had to do," Tom Hardy's John Fitzgerald tells the expedition's group leader later. "He was buried right."
The party of volunteers murders his son in the trailer and attempt to bury Glass alive.
After recovering from his wounds, DiCaprio sets on on a mission for revenge. "All I had was my boy, and they took him from me."
"The Revenant" opens on Christmas Day.
