'Lethal Weapon' Star Damon Wayans Tweets Grievances About Former Co-Star Clayne Crawford
More details about the ouster of former "Lethal Weapon" star Clayne Crawford have come to light.
After reports in April that the actor had been reprimanded for his behavior on set on multiple occasions, Fox renewed the show without Crawford (Martin Riggs). In the wake of the announcement Sunday, at least one of the shows remaining stars, Damon Wayans (Roger Murtaugh), isn't shedding any tears -- more like the opposite. Wayans posted a video on Twitter Monday that showed how he was injured while shooting an episode Crawford directed and went on to heavily criticize him.
The tweets are no longer publicly visible, but Variety described the video as showing "a small explosion" that left Wayans with a cut on his head. The actor wrote, "How does the shrapnel from this hit me on the opposite side of the head? #directedby@claynecrawford." Wayans claimed in another tweet, according to EW, that his former co-star had become "uninsurable" and accused Crawford of "[striking] fear in cast and crew."
While Fox and Warner Bros. so far haven't commented on Wayans's tweets, Crawford himself posted a statement via Instagram on April 24 that addressed his reprimands. He said the first came when he "reacted in anger over working conditions that did not feel safe" and had since apologized; the second, he wrote, stemmed from "an unfortunate event that happened in spite of all safety precautions and procedures being followed." Clearly, though, Crawford's comments didn't make Wayans feel better about what happened.
In spite of the remaining bad blood, the show is going on. Seann William Scott is joining as a new character to replace Crawford, and "Lethal Weapon" has been renewed for Season 3.
