'Lion King' Soundtrack Revealed, With Two New Surprises
With the upcoming "Lion King" remake just weeks away from opening, Disney is further stoking anticipation by unveiling the soundtrack listing.
The original animated classic boasted some of the most memorable movie musical tunes of all time, including several songs written by Elton John, like "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" That song will now be remade with stars Donald Glover and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter in the roles of Simba and Nala.
The new soundtrack — which drops July 11 — features a new original song by Elton John and Tim Rice, titled “Never Too Late." Since John performs it himself, it seems likely it will play over the end credits and vie for the Best Original Song Oscar.
There is also mystery around Track 14, which simply reads "TBA." There was a rumor that Beyonce would since "Shadowland," a soaring anthem sung by Nala in the Broadway version of "The Lion King."
Director Jon Favreau told Fandango, "There's a song that [Beyonce] performed and wrote in the spirit of the production along with working with Lebo M., who's part of it with Hans Zimmer. They were all collaborating with her and helping to bring this new piece of music into a film where there's already a very established musical personality to the piece."
Here's the full track list for "The Lion King." The movie opens in theaters July 19.
