Disney Introduces Its Live-Action 'Aladdin' Stars, Including Will Smith
The struggle was real, but now it is done.
Disney was reportedly having trouble casting its leads for the upcoming live-action "Aladdin" remake, but that is not the case anymore. The studio announced Saturday at D23 that it has filled the roles of Aladdin, Jasmine, and the Genie. They'll be played by Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Will Smith, respectively.
Veteran actor Smith was said to be in talks for his role back in April, but choosing the right Aladdin and Jasmine apparently took longer. While Scott has some high-profile work to her name such as "Power Rangers," Massoud (pictured below) is more of a newbie.
He's clearly excited about the big break. After Disney tweeted out its announcement, he responded, writing that he is "so honored [and] grateful for the opportunity to help bring this magical story to life once again."

Meanwhile, Scott (pictured below) has worked with Disney before. She previously starred in the British series "Life Bites" as well as the Disney Channel original movie "Lemonade Mouth."
The stars of the film will be directed by Guy Ritchie as they try to recreate the success of the first "Aladdin." It's a whole new world for us all.
