'Man of Steel 2' Is Happening, According to Henry Cavill's Agent
Last month, rumors swirled that the long-awaited sequel to 2013's "Man of Steel" was finally moving forward, though there was no confirmation from anyone at Warner Bros. on the subject. Now, a source connected to Superman himself is claiming that the flick is definitely still happening, and is currently in development.
Dany Garcia, a Hollywood super agent with starry clients like Dwayne Johnson, recently added another big name to her roster: Henry Cavill, who plays Superman in DC's film universe. In an extensive interview with Newsweek discussing her recent successes -- including securing Johnson the title of the world's highest-paid actor -- Garcia also added a juicy bit of intel about her new client, offering a bit of an update on "Man of Steel 2" in the process.
Here's what Garcia told Newsweek about her work with Cavill so far:
"We've been in a five-month period of time where he's re-strategizing, acquiring property [for his production company Promethean], he's filming ['Justice League'] now, he's in development for the 'Superman' standalone... he's beginning to expand that world. It's beautifully teed up."
The key passage is obviously "he's in development on the 'Superman' standalone," which is similar to language from last month's report stating that Warner Bros. was "in active development" on the project. So it seems that the rumors are indeed true. Now the only question remaining is just when fans can expect to see that film.
"Man of Steel 2" was originally slated for a tentative 2018 release, though with the upcoming standalone Batman movie in the wings, in addition to the 2017 releases of "Wonder Woman" and "Justice League: Part One," it seems DC's slate is currently quite crowded. We'll have to wait until we hear from the studio itself before we know when it plans to unveil the sequel.
