The MCU is full of male headliners, but Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has promised that its female superheroes will get their chance to shine, too.

The studio head recently discussed the upcoming "Captain Marvel" with Entertainment Weekly, and while doing so, he teased interesting news that may soon come out of the MCU. Apparently, Marvel has some movies featuring female leads on deck.

"With ['Ant-Man and the Wasp'] and now with 'Captain Marvel' and many movies to be announced in the near future, I'm anxious for the time where it's not a novelty that there is a female-led superhero movie, but it is a norm," he said.

As EW pointed out, though, "Ant-Man and the Wasp" is the first MCU film to have a female title character. That comes after a whopping 19 movies and 10 years. For now, it definitely is a novelty and the next crop of female-led Marvel films will likely still be, too.

Feige said he looks forward to reaching a point where seeing a female hero is no longer a big story because it's so common. It sounds like his benchmark for knowing we've reached that point is when people are asking, "Oh, what's this about?" and "Who's this character?" rather than being surprised to see a female hero.

"I think we can get there," he said.

For many MCU fans, the hope is that Feige is including the "Black Widow" standalone movie in the "many movies to be announced in the near future." The film recently landed director Cate Shortland, showing that progress is being made. Fans have been calling for the film for several years, and Scarlett Johansson teased in April that it "could be something really special."

Based on Feige's comments, we should find out soon.
