Mindy Kaling Offers Interesting Take on What Happened to Her 'Office' Character
If you imagined a happy ending for the most volatile couple on "The Office," Mindy Kaling is here to crush your hopes and dreams. And we can't blame her.
The actress's character, Kelly Kapoor, and her off-and-on boyfriend, Ryan Howard (B. J. Novak), were a hot mess, to put it mildly. Although they were together when the series ended, their track record was horrible. Therefore, it's no surprise that Kaling recently expressed doubt that they'd still be together. In fact, in a new Variety interview, the actress speculated that their relationship would have ended very, very badly.
"There's not an insignificant part of me that thinks that Kelly might be in jail; a crime of passion," Kaling told Variety. "The character just kept getting a little bit more and more unhinged. I don't want to say that she murdered Ryan but like I'm also not convinced that he's still alive in the world of 'The Office.'"
How can we disagree? Kelly and Ryan -- especially Ryan -- put each other through a lot, from cheating to mind games to a fake pregnancy. They took dysfunctional to a new level, and they never seemed to grow and mature.
That said, we hope the hypothetical homicide didn't happen. If an "Office" revival ever happens, we'd like to see both characters return.
