'Mission: Impossible' Director Reveals the Crazy Action Scene You May Never See
(MINOR SPOILERS ahead. If you haven't seen "Rogue Nation," stop reading now.)
Some action scenes are just too much even for a "Mission: Impossible" movie.
From Tom Cruise hanging off the side of a plane, to Tom Cruise punching motorcycles with a BMW, writer-director Christopher McQuarrie's "Rogue Nation" is packed with exciting set pieces that fans of the genre will flip for. But there's one scene fans won't see in the new sequel, which is too bad because it sounds like it could have been an all-time great.
Moviefone recently sat down with the filmmaker (below) for an exclusive interview, where he set the stage for the intense chase scene, which involves Ethan Hunt (Cruise), some bad guys and a very unique landmark.
"There was one we really loved [that involved] a glass bridge -- a footbridge going from one building to another," revealed McQuarrie. "And that glass device Ethan uses to break into the factory or the power plant [in "Rogue Nation"], he uses the same glass breaking device to destroy this entire glass bridge."
McQuarrie went on to say that the stakes of the scene would find Hunt facing "bad guys coming from both sides" of the bridge, which is why Hunt must blow it up.
"It was going to be this spectacular image," McQuarrie said, "and unfortunately it was just so unbelievably expensive and we had to jump through so many hoops to put them on that glass bridge, we ultimately put it in the file with all the other things that will show up in another [film]."
Wait - so does that mean we will see it in "Mission 6?"
"You will," the director assured.
Whenever the next film comes out, "Rogue Nation" will more than tide you over till then when it hits theaters Friday.
