New 'Black Panther' TV Spot Heralds Rise of New King
Now, here's a holiday treat: a new TV spot for "Black Panther," teasing further glimpses of footage and the promise "A king will rise."
The brief video, like the full trailer, is a breathtakingly beautiful look at Wakanda, the fictional country home to T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman), whose father's death in "Captain America: Civil War" puts him on the throne. But his rule is threatened by Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), who believes he deserves to be king instead.
The situation only gets worse when Erik teams up with rogue mercenary Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis), who is on the hunt for Vibranium in Wakanda. The country's tribal leaders also are wary of T'Challa's more open relationship with the outside world.
"In this movie, a lot like politics, it's a little tricky to define who's [a good guy]," director and co-writer Ryan Coogler told Entertainment Weekly. "The film very much plays with those concepts, looking at conflicts and different motivations, and who's with who."
"Black Panther" opens in theaters February 16.
