New 'Murphy Brown' Revival Photo Shows Cast 20 Years Later
This just in: The cast of "Murphy Brown" is back in action, 20 years later, for the revival premiering this fall on CBS.
Candice Bergen has returned as the titular character, along with several familiar faces from the 1988-1998 series, and some new names.
The show will follow Murphy Brown's "biting take on current events, now in a world of 24-hour cable, social media, ‘fake news’ and a vastly different political climate."
She now anchors the morning cable news show "Murphy In the Morning" with her old team -- lifestyle reporter Corky Sherwood (Faith Ford), investigative journalist Frank Fontana (Joe Regalbuto), and producer Miles Silverberg (Grant Shaud).
You may remember her young son Avery in the original run -- played by Haley Joel Osment, among other actors. Now he's an adult, played by Jake McDorman. Avery is also a journalist himself, on a rival cable morning show that airs opposite his mother's show.
Tyne Daly also stars in the revival as Phyllis, sister of the late bar owner Phil from the original run. Nik Dodani is another new addition as Pat, the director of social media for Murphy's morning show.
We'll miss the late Robert Pastorelli's house painter Eldin; sadly, Pastorelli died of an overdose in 2004.
Entertainment Weekly shared a first look at the old/new cast and table read from Tuesday in New York:
Also, CBS shared this first look at the revival back in May, in honor of the 30th anniversary of the original run's premiere:
"Murphy Brown" returns Thursday, September 27 at 9:30 p.m. on CBS.
