New 'Sherlock' Special Trailer Takes Holmes and Watson Back to the 19th Century
Christmas has come early for "Sherlock" fans.
BBC One released the first trailer for this year's one-off "Sherlock" special, which is set in the 19th century instead of the present day. Very little of the plot is revealed in the trailer, but Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and John Watson (Martin Freeman) are seen riding in a carriage, prowling around a dark English manor, and running through a catacomb-like space.
The tone is dark and spooky: a woman runs through a hedge maze; multiple pistols are cocked and aimed; Holmes puffs away at his pipe; and there are a couple of shots of a cult-ish people seemingly in large conical hats. And clearly, Sherlock does something nefarious in Watson's eyes, as Watson demands to know, "What made you like this?"
"Oh, Watson. Nothing made," Holmes replies with a sigh. "I made me."
The special was though to to run on Christmas Day, but the trailer merely teases "Coming Soon" at the end.
