Is This New Shonda Rhimes Show the Next 'Grey's Anatomy'?
"Grey's Anatomy" is still going strong in its recently-launched 12th season on ABC. But do you remember those heady days back in the spring of 2005 when the show first debuted, when we first met Meredith and Izzie and George and Bailey, when Derek was, ya know, still alive? You can have that feeling back again, TV fans, thanks to a new show Shonda Rhimes and co. are launching on the Alphabet.
Together with her Shondaland production team and longtime "Grey's" executive producer Zoanne Clack, Rhimes just sold an as-yet-untitled medical drama to ABC that focuses on a U.S. Army Medevac team serving on an American base camp in Baghdad, Iraq circa 2004. The logline says that the crew "get on each others' nerves, sleep with the wrong people, navigate 'office' politics and party like there's no tomorrow," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Clack, who has a master's in public health and has been with "Grey's" since it started, will write the script for this new series, and will also serve as an executive producer alongside Shondaland. THR reports that Clack will take inspiration for the series in part thanks to her own experiences overseas, where she "spent a year working with the CDC in international emergency medicine and helped develop an emergency medicine program in response to the bombing of the American Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania."
We can't wait to see what Rhimes, Clack, and co. have up their sleeves with this show -- and if it lives up to the early seasons of "Grey's." With this creative team behind it, we have a feeling it just might.
